The day has finally arrived!
The greatly anticipated opening of No.1 Ship Street saw its press launch last Friday (21st July) and is now very much open for business.
Formally The News Café, No. 1 Ship Street has most certainly had a facelift! Formed of three floors all with different food concepts, this new venue is sure to be a hit.
Co-owners Ross Drummond (General Manager) and Owen Little (Head Chef) both have over 20 years’ experience within the hospitality industry and after knowing that they both wanted to work together, in February this year they decided upon Ship Street as their place to start.
The ground floor restaurant is a modern British brasserie with a focus on using local suppliers where possible, and creating a grown up space in Oxford. It looks very impressive with its rose-gold table tops and freshly pressed linen napkins. The restaurant oozes class and opulence.
The first floor is a smaller space and is more relaxed with its food-sharing concept. There is a separate cocktail bar, specialising in rum and gin slings, and the champagne and oyster bar that certainly got me up the stairs! Fresh oysters from Borough Market with grower Champagnes is certainly what Oxford needs right now. The idea is to pick a few small dishes to share with friends – the perfect Friday night after work, right?
There is also a second floor which will be available for private dining and events.
Ross and Owen want to create an environment that people are proud to work in – which will translate to guests, alike. When speaking to Operations Manager Anna Cole she mentioned the team want to make guests feel relaxed and not pressured to order the most expensive dishes “If customers want to order just a main, that’s fine!”
After trying some samples of food, I am very excited to go back for the full three-course experience! So watch this space for the write-up!
